Anointing the Sick
August 21st 2011 20:47
In order to claim to be a Christian one MUST be obedient to God. This means that the walk and talk of a person must be righteous and all that is sinful, removed from their life. Of course people will slip up now and then, but they should first know what is good and bad to our Father and then make sure they stay completely away from sinful behavior and embrace complete obedience.
Today, let's discuss anointing. So many Christians today think they live in obedience to God yet they have never practiced anointing. Some have no idea what this even means. Let's learn about it today.
James 5:14
“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:” (KJV)
Mark 6:13
“And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.” (KJV)
2 Corinthians 1:21
“Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God.” (NKJV)
Christ means Christos which means the Anointed One. Olive oil is the oil of our people. By getting a container putting extra virgin olive oil in it, saying a prayer such as:
(Example) “Our heavenly Father, please bless this oil for the purpose of anointing. May our obedience be pleasing to You. In Jesus precious name we pray, Amen.”
To anoint, place a small amount on your finger tip and touch the forehead of the sick person. Then pray a small prayer during the anointing process such as: (Example) “Father please bless (name), we ask for You to heal, strengthen, guide and protect them. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.”
Remember: A Christian must ask for anointing, some may (who do not know of the process) do so if you read the passages to them, but you should not force it upon anyone. Teach in obedience and anoint in obedience, but do not force it- it is a symbol of the person's faith in our Father and Christ as our Savior.
