Condoning Immoral Behavior
March 2nd 2011 17:42
Condoning bad behavior is one thing that Christians should NEVER do. I don't care if it is your friend, your child, your sibling or your parent. If their daily, or current, behavior is wrong and they refuse to change it immediately and permanently (become a Christian) then you should not continue to be around them and you certainly shouldn't condone their behavior. (Psalm 1:1, Proverbs 13:20, Proverbs 22:24-25, 1 Corinthians 5:11, 1 Corinthians 15:33)
We are to walk away from anyone who walks in disobedience after we, as Christians, explain the truth in love. We are not to be associated with them any more.
Here is an example: A person has a close friend or relative who is having sex out of wedlock and is breeding out of wedlock. This person tells them that it is sexually immoral and defies the will of God. They still chooses to continue this behavior. If the person was a Christian, they would remove themselves from that person and stop associating with them. A Christian would not be self righteous and say things like: they'll come around, eventually they'll see the light, I'll keep on supporting them and one day they'll see how devoted I am to them and decide to be just like me, etc. This is not only self righteous but self centered- this is far from Godly. Life is not about you. You have nothing to do with anyone else changing, it is up to them to accept Jesus (fully accept Him, not just out of temporary convenience or gain). Only Christ can offer salvation and we are not to support those who walk in disobedience.
This goes with any and all sin, I was just giving a common example.
Remember, Christianity is not a walk in the park. Making sure that our actions and words are synonymous and centered around obedience to God is a vital part of being Christ like. It is tough sometimes but it is what we are called to do. You have to show God that you love Him higher than any one else. We have to choose: stand with disobedience or stand with God. You can't have both. And, if you decide to walk the fence and claim that you are a Christian yet condone this type of behavior, then you are not a Christian, you are a liar. Not everyone will obey God and live a truly Christian life, some may see this as unfair. But, as Christians we know that we don't make the rules. God does and He is holy. We simply need to live by the cross if we want to honestly claim to be a Christian.
