Christians and Divorce
September 7th 2008 17:10
Many people today, some Christians, believe that it is okay to get a divorce if a marriage doesn’t work out. But people are forgetting that marriage is all about love, loyalty and responsibility. The sad fact is that today 86% of divorces have a 3rd party involved, often it is a lover of one of the spouses. This is terrible. Adultery is the one thing that breaks all trust in a marriage.
The reason we get married in a church, under God is that we are making a promise to Him and to the person we love to be loyal for life. Now Moses, back in the Old Testament, tried hard to be liberal with the people when he allowed 2 types of divorce. One was for adultery and the other was for ‘any’ reason one would be unhappy with the other.
But here are the reasons NOT to divorce simple because you want a way out of your promise and responsibility:
1. Showing your family that you hold fast to responsibility and don’t run away for selfish reasons.
2. Enforce the true meaning of loyalty
3. Not allowing wickedness to control your existence.
Remember, when we abandon our sacred promise the only thing we teach our children is that we value ourselves more than any other, that we are unwilling to sacrifice for love. There shouldn’t be an exit in a marriage- “UNTIL DEATH DO US PART”
If your marriage is in trouble seek God’s help, redefine your lives and become true Christians in all manner of actions, attitudes and life practices.
