Are You Going to Heaven: The Poor in Spirit
July 6th 2008 03:09
*We are reading from Mathew 5 verses 3-12 and analyzing the character of who will enter the Kingdom of Heaven during the “Are You Going to Heaven” posts.
Matthew 5:3- “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Over the years I have heard a lot of opinions regarding “the poor in spirit” from those who don’t really read the bible but have a lot of ‘ideas’ as far as interpretation. Church leaders however, have the right definition as they have studied the terminology and dedicated their lives to the Word of God.
“The poor in spirit” actually means the opposite of a prideful spirit. It means: to be humble.

And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
And said, Verily I say unto you Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
The Book of James 4
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Humble yourselves in the sight of Lord, and he shall lift you up.
T.B.T. it's going to be impossible to make to heaven without being humble, we must get pride out of our lives because it will cause us to be stiffnecked and rebellious.
