Sermon on the Mount: The Golden Rule
November 23rd 2008 19:12
In Matthew 7:12we see the wrap up of the Sermon on the Mount. We see that the golden rule is instituted here: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. This is another example of what is right and wrong.
For instance, you take a hot button issue like abortion that still has so many supporters. Would you appreciate a person thinking that you are a ‘mistake’, an ‘inconvenience’, a ‘waste of time’, or a ‘worthless individual’ that is unworthy of love and the right to life? Would you further deem it acceptable for someone pull out a gun or other means of a weapon and kill you on the spot after making such an assessment? No, of course not. If God gave life it needs to be allowed to live. Each an every person has issues like this in their life. How about hatred? Do you like it when people hate you? Then why hate others? Do you like when you are lied to or humiliated? Then why do it to others?
We are also to love others but what it does not say that liars and manipulators are constantly twisting is despite all sins ‘love and allow’ it. The bible tells us to hate the sin but love the sinner because they are a child of God. Sometimes that is hard to do but we must remember that there are people that are just so ignorant that they are blinded by their own self centered way of living. We need to pray for them and continue to hate their sins and try to teach them right from wrong.
