Are You Going to Heaven: The Pure in Heart
July 19th 2008 03:24
We are reading from Mathew 5 verses 3-12 and analyzing the character of who will enter the Kingdom of Heaven during the “Are You Going to Heaven” posts.
Matthew 5:8- “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”
My pastor once told a very good story in church one Sunday that brought tears to his eyes. The story ended with this man trying to tell a classroom of children that he searched and searched but was unfortunately reporting to them there was no God because he couldn’t find Him. He said that he looked everywhere and expected a sign or miracle but he wasn’t answered so the conclusion was drawn that God must not exist…. A little girl then replied to this man in front of her classmates…”well, maybe you couldn’t see Him because you weren’t looking for Him with a pure heart.”
To be “pure of heart” means to be honest, sincere and without an agenda. The man in this story had already made up his mind… he was basically mocking faith & Christianity and wanted to press his agenda to the impressionable children. But, God made it clear to the man through the girl that He knew what the man was doing. He was not sincerely looking for God, nor did he have the intention. He only wanted to ridicule the bible and what it teaches and thought it would be easy to execute his plan to a class full of children.

Here is a little story my sister in-law sent to me.
The man whispered, 'God, speak to me' and a meadowlark sang.
But, the man did not hear.
So the man yelled, 'God, speak to me' and the thunder rolled across the sky.
But, the man did not listen.
The man looked around and said, 'God let me see you.' And a star shined brightly.
But the man did not see.
And, the man shouted, 'God show me a miracle.' And, a life was born.
But, the man did not notice.
So, the man cried out in despair, 'Touch me God, and let me know you are here.'
Whereupon, God reached down and touched the man. But, the man brushed the butterfly away ..
and walked on.
I found this to be a great reminder that God is always around us in the little and simple things that we take for granted ... even in our electronic age. So I would like to add one more:
The man cried, 'God, I need your help!' And an e-mail arrived reaching out with good news and encouragement. But, the man deleted it and continued crying ..
Don't miss out on a blessing because it isn't packaged the way that you expect.
