Idolatry

What is idolatry? Well, having an idol is loving something more than you love God. This is something that the bible warns us about. Many people are guilty of this sin and some don’t even know it.
What can be construed as idolatry? The love of :
money/wealth
hero worship (sports figures, actors, actresses, singers, etc.)
pleasure
human praise
worship of self
people, places or things
…more than you love God or to the point of obsession. Many people confuse love with obsession.
(Matt. 6: 24; Acts 12: 21-23; 2 Tim. 3: 4; Jn. 12: 42, 43; 2 Tim. 3: 2 Ezek. 14: 6).
So, now that you understand what idolatry is how are you going to handle it? Our sin nature kicks in when we realize that we are guilty and automatically we try to justify our position and then manipulate scripture to condone the practice. But an idol is an idol and God is very clear about how He feels about it. So, this is a test for those who claim to true followers of God and His word. Will you cling to your sinful worldly ways or will you turn from them and follow God‘s commandments?
