Is it Okay to Hate?

Hate, is a very strong word. I have heard many people that are ignorant of God's word yet claim to be Christians say that it is wrong to hate and that hate is an “evil” thing. Well actually, hate is not an “evil” thing as God can do no evil, He is righteous and holy in every way and his hatred is always just. Here are some scriptural examples of what I mean.
“You must not worship the LORD your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the LORD hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods.” Deuteronomy 12:31
Galatians 5:19 “Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Scripture tells us repeatedly that God hates sin and sins of the flesh. This passage in Galatians illustrates the fleshly sins that evil lives by.)
Proverbs 8:13 “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.”
Proverbs 6:16-19 “16 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.”
Amos 5:14-15 “Seek good and not evil, That you may live; So the LORD God of hosts will be with you, As you have spoken. Hate evil, love good...”
Are we told to hate people? No, not the person, but YES, we are to hate their sinful ways and behavior. Remember: Hate the sin, not the sinner.
