Jesus Talks about Murder PART TWO
August 20th 2008 15:18
The second part of this lesson has to do with the emotional aspect of murder and murderous behavior. If we remember that in Ephesians 4 we are told to put off the corrupt and emotion driven person and walk in the light. Jesus teaches “slow” to anger.
Of course emotion is good to have it allows us to feel, the same as with anger. Some anger is tolerated and valid. But, as Jesus explains in Matthew 5:21-26, it is the anger driven by hostility. It is wrong to have an attitude of seek and destroy. Murder is actually anger in progress. When we allow anger and hatred to consume our thoughts and emotions, we only want to act on our feelings of ill will.
Murder is not limited to the killing of a body this also means desiring the destruction of a person’s reputation, happy nature, or otherwise trying to bring them to their lowest and taking away their love of life. Remember that anger and hostility go hand in hand, anger by nature wants revenge. The anger that we feel with a revengeful heart is the murderous kind and when Satan creeps up on us in this hostile form we are to allow a passage from Romans 12:19 to enter our minds: “…Vengeance is mine, says the Lord.” This in its entirety is a wonderful passage to read from when you feel anger to the point of hostility toward mankind.
Some forms of this sinful anger are;
1. gossip
2. slander
3. cursing
4. mocking
5. and finally malice
***Justified anger is NEVER selfish, it is based on God’s principals.
