Swearing of Oaths
September 14th 2008 17:18
In Matthew 5:33-37 we learn the importance of swearing oaths. Have you ever wondered why people do this or if it was okay to do this? Well today we’ll look at this portion of the Sermon on the Mount.
It is because mankind is deceitful and wicked that oaths are needed to uphold honesty and integrity. By now all Christians know that we will all (every soul on this earth regardless of what each individual believes or doesn’t believe) be judged according to our works. Jesus reminds us of the importance when swearing oaths. Oaths are binding on earth as it is in heaven. To be a citizen of heaven one must be honest always… not when they deem it necessary.
Here are some scriptures that reinforce this subject:
Matt 23:16-22
Jer. 5:2
Hosea 4:1
Psalms 15:1-2
Eph 4:15
Hebrews 6:16

Ecclesiastes 5:v6
Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands.
We are going to be judged by our words on Judgment day, the bible says we will give account of every idle word we speak, and by our words we are justified, and by our words we are condemned.
