Partaking in Other Religions and Practices as a Christian
October 30th 2011 16:12
With the world in moral decline as it is today, some people are pulling as many religions into their lives as they can fit. Is this really okay to engage in practices that are not Christian? Scripture tells us absolutely not! “You can not serve two masters.” Idolatry is an abomination to God and when you mix it with some Christian practices in your life you mocking God and working very hard to provoke Him to anger.
What are some ways that Christians commonly do this?
Engaging in:
• astrology (star worship)
• rolling Easter eggs (a tradition to worship the fertility goddess Ishtar a.k.a Easter- which is also why rabbits/bunnies are used in ritualistic practices because the animal is fertile)
• engaging in, glorifying, or promoting witchcraft, sorcery, etc. on any level
Some have asked, “Does this mean we can't have Christmas trees in our homes cause it's not biblical and pagans say they use trees in one of their winter rituals?” Actually, the reference to the tree is biblical. Jesus is referred to as the Tree of Life and repeatedly we learn throughout scripture that we (Christians) are likened unto trees. With so many citations made to tree in God's word, yes, it symbolizes a biblical reference. However, it is more the reason behind this practice. Do you have a tree in your house to dance around it naked in honor of some false goddess or do you have a tree in your home in honor of Christ, the symbolism of Christians being trees, rooted and strong in love (Ephesians)? God knows your heart.
1 Cor. 10:19-22 “What am I saying then? That an idol is anything, or what is offered to idols is anything? Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than He?”

Thank you for your comment. My belief on helping others is that of old. I believe that it is the church who is responsible to help people and fulfill needs (not governments). James 2 talks a lot about a Christian's role to come to the aid of those in need and sums up my personal stance very well. You asked what I do in my daily life to help people- I usually don't like answering personal questions like this because it makes me feel like I am tooting my own horn but in this case I do believe you are seriously asking and before I answer, I would like to state that everything I do I don't do for my own glory but for my Father's Glory. All that I do is to bring honor to Him. I do work in my community, I take care of my neighbors who are aging, when a call for assistance comes into our church I and other Trustees show up to help the caller, when I see people struggle in any manner when I am out in public I assist as well as I can at that moment, I donate to missions and Christian charities, I provide food to the poor (when given the opportunity), and things of this nature. If there is a need that I know of and God has blessed me with the resources to aid the people in need, I do.
