What Jesus Says About Prayer: Part One
October 1st 2008 01:20
Today I want to get into Matthew 6:5-15. This is all about prayer and how we should be praying as Christians. So if you would take a moment and open your bibles to this part of the Sermon on the Mount.
As we can see, the beginning of this section shows what behavior is righteous in the eyes of God. There are things we must remember when we pray:
1. We are not praying to please mankind. Don’t do it so everyone believes you to be a good person or to pacify a motive.
2. Don’t pray to pat yourself on the back and make it seem as though you are a better person than another.
3. Finally we need to pray in secret, we must talk to God and bear all of the issues going on in our lives. This shows God that we trust in Him, have faith in Him and truly believe He is our Father and only He can help us.

That's why he tells us to pray in secret and he will reward us openly. When we pray in secret we can pour our hearts out to God without fear of someone else hearing our deepest fears or desires.
I learned the Lord's prayer at about four years old, my mother taught it to me, and now at the end of just about every prayer I say I also say the Lord's pray to.
We must never forget when we are praying we must forgive others or God will not accept our prayers.
