Reasons for Fasting

In our last bible study session we learned about what Jesus said about fasting at the Sermon on the Mount. But now we should go into the reasons people fast. Again, this is a spiritual journey to get closer to God and commune with Him on a deeper level.
Reasons:
1. in service to the Lord
2. to purify the body
3. times of sadness and grief
But perhaps the best reasons of all:
1. for spiritual direction
2. because you are facing problems that need divine intervention
3. to ask for forgiveness
