Repentance and Forgiveness

If you repent with a truthful, honest heart then you are forgiven- but it is your WORKS from that point on that backs up your true desire to be forgiven and to follow God.
Isaiah 43:25-26
“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake;
And I will not remember your sins. (Once you repent sincerely He doesn't want to hear about it again.)
Put Me in remembrance; (Remember Him and reach out to Him.)
Let us contend together; (let us talk together in prayer)
State your case, that you may be acquitted. (Explain what you did and why you did it and apologize sincerely, asking for forgiveness. Then ask for strength to overcome or resist a future sin of that nature and ask for wisdom to remember that it is a sin. With sincere repentance you can be justified by God through His forgiveness.)
Hebrews 6 is a good reminder that those who keep bringing up the same sin is like re-crucifying Christ. This means that once you ask for forgiveness for a specific sin don't bring it up again or it is like saying Christ failed to forgive you. He does NOT fail. You see Jesus has already been crucified for all sins, once repented they are wiped clean, gone. To bring it up again is like re-crucifying Him all over again as if the first time wasn't good enough. BUT, do remember that if you repent of something and then go out and do it again, repent again for the “new” offense. Just don't ask for those you have already repented of. If you repent you should back up your sincerity of asking for forgiveness by steering clear of making the same sin in your life. The first time something can be considered a “mistake” but after the first time it is no longer a mistake but a “choice”.
