Romans 12: The Brethren
June 29th 2011 14:47
In this study of Romans we are going to learn about the brethren. As Christians, true believers in Christ, we should be living a transformed life. If we aren't, then we should not consider ourselves to be Christians.
When we live a transformed life all aspects of our daily life should reflect a godly walk. Many people can talk about being a Christian but unless your walk and talk are synonymous then talk is cheap. It means nothing. Empty words can not do anything for a person and only shows ignorance and a low respect for God and His Son. So let's see how we should be changing:
Actions: Our actions toward the brethren is two fold in verses 9-15. First, our social actions should be focused solely on: honesty, love, humility, diligent, helpful, practice hospitality and always bless others that persecute you (IF POSSIBLE v.18). And secondly, spiritual action which consist of: compassion, holiness, show excitement, faithfulness, happiness, be hopeful and in all things be prayerful.
Attitudes: Our attitudes in verses 16-17 shows us four ways we should be reflecting in our daily walk with others. 1.) love as family, embrace and encourage fellowship, be the first to forgive (Matt 5:23-24), and always be faithful.
Affections: Our affection toward the brethren in verses 18-21, should be peaceful, patient, positive and pleasant.
