Romans 5 Introduction
October 3rd 2010 19:18
So far we have learned in Romans that Paul has spent considerable time on the subject of man's need for salvation. We know that when you know, love and walk with Jesus, we have salvation, when we do not know Jesus, we are lost (1 John 5:12).
Paul says that we who have believed have been "justified". This declares our position as Christians. The term justified basically means "to count someone righteous." It means "to reckon, to account, to judge, to treat, or to look upon as righteous." It does not mean to make righteous! It does mean that we are treated as righteous. There is a difference.
Our position is described in chapter 5 of Romans which will be the topic of our next few studies. We will learn how the great miraculous and fantastic justification came to be in our lives. The answer is simple, by faith! We didn't earn it and we didn't deserve it! We merely believed God and took Him at His Word concerning the Lord Jesus. Because of this, God justified us by faith.
