Christian Soldiers
November 20th 2008 19:11
In 2 Timothy 2 we get a clear idea as to what a Christian soldier is all about. Christianity is not a spectator sport as my pastor has always said. It is a serious life changing path that transforms a person from a worldly, selfish individual into a soldier for God.
First, we have a task. We follow orders from our leader which is God the Father and Christ our Savior, to fight against evil.
Secondly, we need training. Discipline, strength, self control, dedication and practice in denying yourself. (Read more: John 2:5, John 14:15)
Thirdly, we have been given tools. All of our weapons are of the supernatural sort. We have tools to fight against wickedness which are salvation, prayer, the word of God, truth and righteousness. (Read more 2 Corinthians 10, Ephesians 6:12-13)
Fourth, we must all be tested to measure our loyalty. Mental and physical rigors of life will more than measure our dedication to God. Remembering to submit to authority: this is our first test and a test that lasts as long as we live. (Read more: Luke 22:31, Acts 4:12, Hebrews 4:12)
And finally, the triumph. We know that Christ will take us home and in the end He will prevail. Remember there are a couple of things that also comes with being a soldier. A.) If you refuse to serve you dishonor. B.) If you betray your leader and refuse to follow orders you dishonor everyone and yourself.
We are all called, but only a handful of Christians will stop our selfish ways and live to serve God instead of ourselves.
