Speaking in Tongues

Okay, here is a quick lesson that I feel is a must to share. There is a lot of confusion about “speaking in tongues” so I thought I would clarify what the Bible is talking about. I have heard some uneducated Christians say some silly things and one of them is that Christians have to speak in tongues that no one can understand (and various things along those lines). This is false.
The word “tongue” means “language”.
Two things are primarily spoken of in scripture regarding speaking in tongues:
The Pentecostal tongue that is spoken of in scripture is when the Holy Spirit speaks through a person- now some people may blabber some gibberish and then say it was the Holy Spirit and offer to translate it for you- but they are lying to you. You see, this “tongue” when spoken is called a “cloven” tongue. Why is that? Because when it is spoken, the one stream of words coming from the mouth is split and all people can understand it the moment it is spoken. *Example: A diverse group of people (Russian, American, Chinese and German) are all standing in a line they only speak their native language. In front of these people is a person speaking a “cloven” tongue. The words that come out of this person's mouth are understood by all of these people the instant the words are spoken. Therefore, when the Holy Spirit really comes from the mouth of a person it will need no translation people from all languages will be able to understand it. If you can not understand it then it is NOT spoken by God's spirit. (Read more about this: Acts 2:1-12)
Another meaning of “speaking in tongues” in scripture refers to when a Christian teaches in other lands/countries one must be able to speak that tongue/language.
