The Danger of Being Deceived

October 9th 2011 15:59

Today we are studying the danger of being deceived. This study lands us in 2 Corinthians, chapter 11. It is vitally important that we are not deceived because God sent us the love letter in which we can be guarded and we are to study His word so we can “show ourselves approved” and be righteous before Him. That is how we prove our love for Him. If we allow ourselves to be deceived then we are showing Him that we did not seek Him, did not love Him enough to understand what He expressed to us, we were not concerned with His feelings and His efforts meant nothing to us. So, let's always be diligently studying and rightly divining His word. Please start by reading this chapter and we will get into the study.

In verses 1-2 Paul urges the Christians to bear with, understand him and realize that all of his teachings were to help secure them to Christ so that they might have the blessed salvation.

Verse 3 gives us the beginning of the warning and reminds us of Satan's cunning deceptions from the beginning.

Verse 4 is VERY important as it specifies a particular deception that Satan engineers in the end times which involves a doctrine that is not biblical that would fool people into thinking that Christ comes first.

5-6 explains how, in this time, the truth was made manifest to the apostles and they gave the word at the direction of God our Father and the one true Christ, His Son. And although Paul wasn't trained to be a charismatic speaker he did exactly what he was called to do.

7-12 Paul confronts them about the way he preached, he did not take money or resources from them, instead he took the money from the church which is intended to pay for ministering to people and then went out to preach as opposed to merely waiting for the few to come to the church for the gospel. Nothing would stop him from spreading the gospel. That was his mission.

Verse 13 “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.” The warning that people will do Satan's work by spreading lies in order to manipulate scriptures and present their false christ.

14-15 Satan will look, act and seem like Christ Himself, and his false apostles will seem to know scripture very well- and because of the doctrines that are spread that are the opposite of God's word people will believe it unless they have studied the truth.

16-21 Paul explains that his teaching are not in vain and without merit, that his wisdom is not his own but comes from Almighty. He is not a fool nor does he speak foolishly.

22-30 Paul explains his position, his teaching, relates to the people and explains what he has been through to bring the message to them. If it were for his personal benefit or glory that would ridiculous, no one would go through that much trouble and pain for a fib or tale.

31 “The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not. “

32 “In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desirous to apprehend me:

33 “And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands.”

Let's look at another part of scripture directly from the Son of God,

Jesus commands us- Matt 24:4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you." It is OUR duty to make sure that we are not deceived.

In short, judgment may begin at the pulpit, but we are all responsible to some degree to NOT be deceived. Why? Because God sent us this love letter called the Holy Bible to read and study to see what HE has to say about the events that are going to transpire. The Apostles did their job, the REAL message IS out there and we must find it, embrace, live by it and abide by it. Don't let people lie to you, trust God, not man. Your soul depends on your choices.
