The Meaning of Thanksgiving
December 1st 2010 00:02
So, now that the turkey is eaten and the family has left and you are preparing for Christmas, how did your Thanksgiving go? What did you do? I am hoping that you gave thanks at Thanksgiving. In reflection of the month that has just passed, I would like you to count your blessings.
There are seven things to be thankful for as a Christian spiritually, and then of course each person has their own thanks for private blessings that God has bestowed on them. Let's cover our collective, Christian blessings that we should be giving thanks for:
1. Our Savior- Jesus devoted Himself to God and submitted His life which reconciled us to God.
3. The Bible- We have a responsibility to learn and to teach from this tool which is a love letter from God to His children. (2 Timothy 2, Hebrews 4:12)
4. Our Salvation- The cross, the shed blood and the broken body of Jesus Christ entered us into a new agreement, a New Covenant which gave us forgiveness. (2 Timothy 1:12)
5. The Church- The bride of Christ which is for discipleship and edification.
6. The Provisions of Life- God has given us all that we have. He is our protector and provider and takes care of us always, we have faith in Him and He takes care of us. (Psalms 100, Philippians 4:16)
7. Our Eternal Home in Heaven- “Home is where the heart is” = “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Philippians 4:17, 2 Corinthians 5:1, John 14:1-6, Hebrews 11:16)
