The Words of Jesus on the Cross

April 6th 2011 20:48

I have heard so many people quote Jesus on the cross “My God, My God, why has thou forsaken me?” and use the words as if to say that even Jesus Himself was a doubter. This is both ignorant and insulting. So, today, let's learn a little about this so that you will be enlightened into the magnificent and awe inspiring love of Jesus Christ.

Open you bible to Psalms 22. Please read it.

You see in the Psalms you'll see that prophecy was declared that the crucifixion was to come to pass. Jesus is called the Great Teacher. What was it that He was doing? Teaching scripture so that it would increase the faith of His followers. Jesus was NOT doubting His Father. He was fulfilling prophecy. All the things foretold were transpiring. His followers wept and He was comforting them by reminding them why He had come.

Don't forget that, and don't ever let an ignorant person spread lies about our Savior in your presence. Be ready to speak the truth in and out of season, whenever the occasion arises.

Wonderful post, important message. You are quite right to point out that Jesus was NOT expressing doubt (or regret at having willingly gone to the cross) when, at the height of His agony, He cried out "My God, My God, why has thou forsaken me?" So why did He say these words? Jesus' work on the cross was to take upon His holy, innocent and blameless person all the sins of the world - past, present and future - and at that instant His Father, the Lord God, had to turn away from Jesus, albeit only for a moment, because a righteous and holy God must turn away from sin. From before the beginning of the world Jesus was one with the Father, just as He was during His incarnation on this earth, and that brief moment of separation from God while on the cross must have been one of excruciating agony for Him. That pain of separation prompted Jesus to ask what is essentially a rhetorical question, and in doing so also to declare to mankind the pain of momentary separation from God which He endured while paying our sin wages and redeeming us to God by His blood. Anyway, that is what I believe. One more important point; Jesus was not killed but willingly surrendered His life on the cross (remember Pilots amazement upon being told that Jesus died hours before victims of crucifixion normally did). He surrendered His Spirit to the Father which also fulfilled another prophesy that none of his bones would be broken (normally the Romans would break the legs of crucifixion victims to hasten their deaths as this ultimately resulted in suffocation) but when the Roman soldier approached Jesus to break His legs he found that Jesus was already dead. Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. Thank you, Yashua Ha Mashia, Jesus the Christ, for shedding your precious blood to redeem us unworthy sinners to the Lord God Yahweh.
