True or False: The Earth is Only 2,000-4,000 Years Old, The Bible Says So

November 23rd 2011 11:00
Of course, this is false. This is something that has circulated out there in society for a great many years. Some people really believe that each day in Genesis means one of our human days. Please remember scripture says that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years (2 Peter 3). That helps to put it all in perspective. Also, note the different “world ages” or eons (or aeons) referred to in the bible.

When read properly, the Bible coincides with science perfectly. That is why it can be relied on as a historical document full of eye-witness accounts. Science and scripture can go hand in hand when people are able to read and understand it.

I'll be doing future posts on the three Earth ages with full Biblical references in the coming weeks.

I am sorry, but I disagree, the bible mostly comprise of legions, not historical fact, however, legion usually do decendent from history, so there are certain similarity to the truth, sometime they are very much the same, sometime they are very different. In the story of David and the Giant for example, the true historical record, was battle of two armies, where one army out number the other and the army with fewer soldiers mostly contains troops who are historically either midget or children. (Some archeologist believe the soldiers are mostly jewish children) from the eye of children or midget full grown man, can seem like giants and then add on to the fact that they were been outnumbered. As they say the victor are the one that remains to tell their version of the story. So, as time went by, the legion became a story of David vs the giant, a boy who, defeat a giant with a single stone. Many historian believe there might actually be a David within the real hisotrical record and he might be the commander of the midget or children army. But either way, history and legion do have significant difference. So, I am sorry, but I do not consider the bible as a reliable source for history, it is a source we can use to help archeologist figure out what really happened, but not a soruce that reflect history itself

You are certainly welcome to your personal opinion but the facts are the facts and they will not change. As a teacher of history (for many years) as well as a bible student (again, for many years) I believe (because of the facts) that the bible is a historical document that coincides with factual events.

All people, have the right to think and believe what they want, that is why we are here; to make the choices we wish to stand by.

People such as myself have the right to learn for themselves what supporting evidence there is for their faith and others have the right to turn a blind eye and believe as they want too.

Don't be sorry about the way you believe unless you think that your belief is in error. If you want to put your faith in something then do so, but believe it with your whole heart.

Sorry, but I still believe they are myth that decendent from history, mostly due to the number of super natural event that took place within it and while some super natural event are stuff we continue to see till today (although it is most likely to be just science that modern since are yet able to explain, just like people 100 years ago can't explain why are there high and low tie in the sea) While some I believe to be historically accurate, others...I won't believe happen, the part about Jesus come back to live after death, might have a small chance of been true, because we do occassionally see dead people coming back alive, (there are many scientific theory in regards to why, but so far, we don't have an answer yet), but other stuff like turning water into wine, i don't believe that actually happen, the part about him able to heal a person just by touching him, my guess is that historically, he is probably a great doctor, that can heal a lot of disease and because he heal the sick for free, for the poor, as his legion grew, it became a situation where he can heal the ill just by touching them. I am sorry, but I have to be scepticale, because the supernatural stuff, just doesn't make sense. So, I am sorry, butI can't see the bible as a historical accurate source,
