What Do We Possess as Christians?
October 6th 2010 19:20
Welcome back to our Romans study. We are in chapter 5 and are studying the first 5 verses. In this installment we will be learning what Christians possess that set them apart from people that are not saved. A person that is not saved is a person that does not know Jesus Christ or has rejected Him and His teachings.
First, we possess acceptance according to verse 1. Paul's teachings are clear. Salvation brings with it peace with God. As human beings, we can not understand the full scope of what this means. We are of limited knowledge and understanding. Everyone that is lost is the enemy of God (Rom. 8:7). When a lost person comes to Christ by faith and works on their personal relationship with Him and walks daily in His teachings they are then embraced and God declares peace. What does “peace with God” mean?
2. Heaven is satisfied - 1 John 2:2
3. Old enemies have been reconciled - 2 Cor. 5:18
We also possess access (verse 2). The truth that through Jesus Christ, we have direct access to God Himself is revealed. The word "access" means "to enter the presence of the king." Through Jesus, we have the right to enter into the very presence of God without fear! We have access to Him.
We possess blessed assurance of salvation. This is a two-fold assurance. Let me explain: "grace wherein we now stand." The word "stand" carries the idea of permanence, of being firmly fixed and immovable. We are taught here that we are absolutely and eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Colossians 1:20, "And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven."
