What is the Purpose of the Church?

January 16th 2011 17:10

Many new believers and even some unbelievers tend to pose the question, “What is the purpose of the church?” So, today, let's look at the answer directly from scripture.

In Ephesians 1, we see that the ultimate purpose is to glorify God. But, how? What activities help the church to fulfill its mission?
1- The church is to worship God in spirit and truth. (John 4:23-24)
2- The church is to be active in evangelism and the task of witness. (Acts 1:8)
3- The church is to be active in edification as well. (Ephesians 4:11-16)

In order for a church to succeed, requires commitment and for the body of the church to surrender all (Matthew 28:16-20). So, the entire purpose can be summarized in two words: Make Disciples.
