What Really Happened in the Garden of Eden? (Lesson 1)
July 20th 2011 18:26
As promised, we are going into the study of the Garden of Eden. Most people have never heard of this story in the way it was intended. I hope you enjoy it and please stick around for the continued lessons to come on this topic.
Let me first take the text which lays out the actual events whereby you can understand the situation. Let us reason together by showing the original text and cross referencing them to confirm. Remember that God always gives you clarity with confirmation throughout scripture.
Let's start with the reference to “trees”- In scripture you will find that the body is often referred to as a tree; arms and legs are often called limbs, the trunk of the body of course and even down to the fact that we are called to “produce good fruit” for the people to eat. Which means to feed them the truth (fruit/food/bread) of God's love and His word. Why? Because it is simple for us to understand. When we consume food what happens? We take it in, absorb the nutrients and convert it into energy, right? Well, that is exactly what we should be doing with the word of God.
*Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground the LORD God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
The Tree of Life: Figuratively speaking, Jesus is referred to as the Tree of Life.
The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil: This is another name of Satan, he has many. Why would this be one of his names? Because God created him good, he was a cherub who had a high position (he covered the mercy seat), but because of his beauty and power he became wicked and wanted to be in charge of it all and sit in the mercy seat (which is the seat of Christ). Read Ezekiel 31, God was relating the pharaoh to Satan (in the Garden of Eden), using again the symbology of the “tree”. The “tree” was beautiful, pleasing to the eye, and was “driven out (of Eden) for its wickedness” which was defiling mankind and deceiving them to sin.
*Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Now we see that God warns them about this tree. The “fruit” is not good to eat and will bring them death. So, we see the two people referred to here in Eden. Both have access to Adam and Eve.
