Why Did Jesus Suffer?

So, why did Jesus suffer as He did for us? We are not worthy of such a sacrifice. We are selfish, filthy, and sometimes utterly disgraceful. But He suffered for us because He loves us so much and wanted to bring us closer to God. He came to try and reconcile us with our Father, our Maker. He has interceded on our behalf. He also taught by example. Yet, we crucified Him for His love and compassion.
