Why Do We Sin?
February 17th 2008 16:35
Why do we sin? This is a complicated question that deserves some clarity. Drifting away from God is something that we all do or have done at some point in our lives. The reason we go off on our own and believe that there is no right or wrong only “choice” and “free will” to make our own decisions is because of the following reasons: we become lazy, we believe lies that are told regarding the “it’s your life do whatever you want, there are no real consequences for your actions” way of living, we allow ourselves to become distracted from the truth and we don’t prioritize.
If we allow ourselves to be caught up in the lies of sin then things will begin to happen to us. First we will be under the influence of people and we will ignore our conscience. Next, we will adopt the easy way out mentality of blame-shifting and denial. Finally, we will start to avoid people of faith, turning away help from God’s people. Our hearts will become hardened by sin.
Many people raise the question of why God ‘punishes’ us and often uses this as a tool or platform to pull others away from God and Christianity. Well this is the way to answer this question. “When your child does something dangerous or wrong in a way that can bring hefty consequences you discipline them so that they learn from their mistakes. This helps a child to grow healthy and realize young that obedience and responsibility go hand in hand and together they help you make the right decisions. God is our father and He loves us. He disciplines us so that we may walk the right path and not be sentenced to an eternity in hell.”
We can stop ourselves from drifting into a life of sin. By anchoring ourselves to the word of God and using the handbook of life (the Holy Bible) we can focus. Obeying God’s word is mandatory, we must respect the rules because they were put in place to protect us and keep us safe. Meditate and pray often so avoid the urge to listen to Satan and the people working diligently in his society.
